Nigeria recall Martins,Apam to Super Eagles' Squad

Written by SuperSports

The pair of Apam Onyekachi and Obafemi Martins have earned recalls to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Apam and Martins are among 11 foreign players called by Nigeria head coach, Stephen Keshi for the international friendly against Venezuela in Miami on November 14.
Martins has revived his career at modest Spanish La Liga outfit, Levante this term scoring four goals so far.
His performance has not gone unnoticed by Nigerian selectors and has earned him a recall.
On the other hand, Apam has made a handful of appearances for his French Ligue 1 club since he returned from a long spell on the sidelines.
Keshi is hoping to shore up his team ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
"Obafemi has done well for his club this season and we believe he deserves a chance to be part of the set-up again after he had his bad times. We can't afford to ignore our best players as we build for a major competition like the Nations Cup.
"Apam has gradually returned to his team. We want to look at him and give him the chance to compete for a place," Keshi told on Wednesday.
Keshi has also handed Newcastle forward, Shola Ameobi the chance to earn his first cap for Nigeria since being cleared by the world soccer governing body to play for the West African nation.
Austin Ejide is the only overseas goalkeeper called by Keshi for the Venezuela game while Chelsea duo of John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses also make the cut alongside five others.
Goalkeeper: Austin Ejide
Defenders: Elderson Echiejile, Apam Onyekachi
Midfielders: John Mikel Obi, Nosa Igiebor, Ogenyi Onazi, Raheem Lawal
Forwards: Brown Ideye, Victor Moses, Shola Ameobi, Obafemi Martins
